Chiropractor in North Portland Helps With Natural Health Tips
In America we are in a crisis when it comes to our overall health. We rank as one of the highest in heart disease and cancer rates in the world. Where is the disconnect and what can we do about it.
What can we do about it…… take control of your own health. You are not in the driver seat of your health if you are suffering from a chronic disease. Your doctor is not in charge of your health…..you are. Every patient needs to take ownership for their own health.
Natural Health Tips in Portland
7 tips to optimal health:
1. Maintain a normal body weight: obesity is a strong precursor for heart disease and other chronic illnesses like diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Exercising and maintaining a good body weight is crucial for optimal health. Eating the right foods is also important. See tip #2.
2. Eat 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day
Most fruits and vegetables make your body alkaline, which is the opposite of acidic. When your body is alkaline it will not allow diseases to grow in your body. My top fruits and vegetables and make you alkaline.
Alkaline super foods:
- Mangos
- Avocados
- Oranges
- Spinach
- Cucumber
- Beats
- Swiss chard
- Dandelion greens
3. Avoid inflammatory foods
- Sugar: AVOID AT ALL COSTS: it’s not just table sugar, try to avoid foods with sugar added, high fructose corn syrup and candy. Avoid Coca-Cola, soda drinks, sugar in your coffee, sugar in yogurt, sugar and granola bars…….sugar is everywhere. Avoid it at all costs
- Dairy: milk, cheese and milk products cause inflammation within the body
- Bread: gluten causes inflammation within the body. Some patients cannot tolerate any gluten, but I believe every human being has sensitivities to gluten. Limit this in your diet and eliminate it if possible.
4. Go for a 30 minute walk every day to clear your head and get your steps in.
Studies have shown that 30 minutes of walking per day is enough to elevate your serotonin levels and lift your mood. It is also a double bonus since you burn calories walking and can maintain a normal body weight
5. Weightlifting: lifting weights for 20 minutes per day, three times per week has shown an increase in healthy hormone levels and a decrease in bodyweight. You do not need to go to the gym to lift weights, simple push-ups, sit ups, pull-ups and other resistance exercises help to get your weight training in.
Studies have found that in men, the best way to keep your testosterone levels high, which is also anti-aging is to lift weights to naturally boost your testosterone levels.
6. Fasting:
This sounds complicated and many medical doctors discredit this health benefit. Fasting is simple, 18 hours of no food in your body. Have your dinner at 6 PM, your next meal would be at 12 PM the next day. 18 hours! This is not that extreme. And simple to do. Studies have shown that fasting is anti-aging and prolongs your health and optimizes your organ crucial functions.
7. Complete your cycles of action:
I know you’re probably wondering what this has to do with health. Making sure that your life, home and work are in order and all your tasks are completed helps clear your mind which in turn helps with a healthier lifestyle and mindset. Make a list of all your unfinished tasks, cycles and start completing them in a fast-track timeline. Don’t let tasks weigh you down, they will bog down your brain and affect your health.
